Sermons
A sense of faithfulness begins with the choices and commitments we make in life. Our Pastor, Douglas J. Groen, exemplifies the faithfulness and commitment for our spiritual community. He was called and has led our congregation for twenty-five years. He knows his people having shepherded and provided spiritual care to them through crises of trauma, grief and loss. Following college and seminary training in the Midwest, he volunteered to become a U.S. Army Chaplain during the Vietnam era. He served overseas in combat with the Ninth Infantry Division, followed by tours in Korea with the Second Infantry Division and The Combined Field Army, a joint command. He completed his career in a major command position managing all Army Chaplain medical assets in the U.S. and overseas. The wisdom he gleaned from these tours benefited his peers. As one of the founding fathers for a residency training program for Army Chaplains, he trained active duty chaplains and civilian clergy. During these years he established and accredited four training centers within the Army, the last at South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio. His specialty areas of study include theology, adult education, religious education, clinical pastoral education, and marriage and family therapy. Our Pastor and his wife are the parents of two daughters and four grandsons living in Texas and Ohio. His wife serves as the pipe organist for one of the religious communities, Main Posst Chapel, in San Antonio, Texas
